“I am happy that the season is finally beginning, as we have enthusiasm and confidence that we can do well,” said the Coach.

“Fans realise we are united and there’s a good feeling in training. We want to prove that we belong in Serie A, even if some expect us to be in the bottom three.

“I can promise we will show extraordinary effort in every game, as we have hunger and grit. I rely more on principles of football rather than specific tactical systems.”

This evening Palermo host Sassuolo at the Stadio Barbera, who last season finished in sixth place.

“Sassuolo set the example for other Serie A clubs. They have clear ideas and a talented Coach who has been there for a long time, so the team is consolidated.”

Ballardini confirmed Aleksandar Trajkovski is out of action, while defender Slobodan Rajkovic is “a big doubt.”

Michel Morganella sits out a two-match ban.

Palermo squad for Sassuolo: Fulignati, Marson, Posavec; Aleesami, Andelkovic, Cionek, Giuliano, Goldaniga, Gonzalez, Pezzella, Rajkovic, Rispoli, Vitiello; Chochev, Gazzi, Hiljemark, Jajalo, Quaison; Balogh, Bentivegna, Embalo, Lo Faso, Nestorovski, Sallai
