Athletic Bilbao Coach Ernesto Valverde admits he “didn’t want to meet Sassuolo” in the Europa League.

The draw put these two teams together in Group F along with Rapid Vienna and Genk.

“I’ll be honest, we didn’t want to cross paths with Sassuolo,” confessed Valverde in today’s Press conference.

“They might not have much experience, but against them things could become rather difficult.

“The positive thing about the draw is that we won’t have any particularly long journeys.”

Their opening match will be at the Mapei Stadium, Sassuolo v Athletic on September 15.

Sassuolo reached the Europa League for the first time in their history after eliminating Red Star Belgrade 4-1 on aggregate.
