The young striker's injury made him unavailable for this week's international call-up. Nonetheless, the Coach recently stated that Berardi might be incompatible with his 3-5-2 formation, which sparked a debate in the Italian football environment.

“It takes courage to give up on someone like Berardi,” said Squinzi, as reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport. “He'll change his mind.

“Domenico is the strongest Italian player and he can cover a variety of roles in the attack, from winger to supporting striker.

“Why should the formation represent an obstacle? It seems absurd to me.”

Berardi will be available for the national team again once his knee has recovered from a bad contusion.

“I'm rather worried about his injury. I fear that the recovery times may be quite long, some tell me it could be up to three weeks. It's a shame, he was in great form.”
