Erick Thohir believes Inter’s summer signings have what it takes to revamp the team’s “backbone” after a “very aggressive” summer transfer window.

Inter spent big on Antonio Candreva, Joao Mario and Gabriel Barbosa as Cristian Ansaldi arrived from Genoa and Europa League winner Ever Banega came in on a free transfer, and Thohir has high hopes for the quintet.

“As expected, we didn’t sign many new players,” the President told FCInterNews.it.

“As expected, we didn’t sign many new players,” the President told FCInterNews.it.

“There were already some good elements in our teams, and to add five more exceptional [players] was something remarkable.

“We expect Cristian Ansaldi to become one of our main defenders and hope Ever Banega, Joao Mario, Antonio Candreva and Gabigol can represent the new backbone of the team.

“I think the transfer market in Italy was much more interesting than in Spain and Germany. Napoli, Inter and Juventus were very aggressive.”
