The Romanian took a knock to his knee while playing for his national team, and there were fears it could have resulted in a serious injury.

Reports of a possible distortion or rupture of the joint meant that the player could have been out for months, but thankfully it should not come to that.

“Chiriches' visits at Villa Stuart are finished,” reads the tweet. “The situation is not nearly as serious as [was predicted] in the most pessimistic scenarios."

A statement on the official website then confirmed 20-minute keyhole surgery to fix a slight lesion to the medial meniscus ligament.

Save for unexpected developments, Chiriches will be available in 3-4 weeks.
