As expected, Roma announced ex-Milan director Umberto Gandini is joining their staff to replace Italo Zanzi.
Gandini surprisingly walked away from the Rossoneri this week after 23 years at the club in various roles and explained his decision today.
“A.S. Roma S.p.A. have today announced that Umberto Gandini will become part of the club's management staff from 12 September 2016,” read a statement.
“He will be proposed as a new Board Member - to be appointed by the Company’s Board of Directors through co-optation – in order to replace Board Member Italo Zanzi and be granted operational powers.
“Gandini has a wealth of experience in football governance, having worked for AC Milan for 23 years as Director of Sports Organisation, and as Executive Director for the past year.
“Highly-respected within the international football environment, Gandini is also a member of UEFA’s Professional Football Strategy Council, and was Executive Vice-President of the European Club Association for more than eight years.”
President James Pallotta noted he was “very much looking forward to working with someone of the experience, knowledge and maturity of Umberto. At AS Roma, we are all excited about him joining us.”
