Alessandro Diamanti believes new Palermo Coach Roberto De Zerbi “has balls” and explains why he chose the Sicilians.

He made his debut in a 3-0 home defeat to Napoli this evening.

“We apologise to the fans, as we lacked courage,” Diamanti told Sky Sport Italia and Mediaset Premium.

“We need to work hard to improve and follow De Zerbi, because he has many ideas and is the right man for us. The Coach demands intensity to play his style of football and right now we don’t have much of it.

“If we do everything that De Zerbi says, we can do well. This is a Coach who has balls and we all need to follow suit if we’re to secure safety.

“He was humble and direct, asking us to follow him, to have fun and show courage.”

Diamanti arrived as a free agent after terminating his contract with Guangzhou Evergrande.

“I chose Palermo because I like a challenge and have always followed my instinct. When the offer arrived, I accepted straight away. It’s a great city with wonderful fans.

“I never liked things easy, so I am very happy to be here with the Rosanero.”
