Milan Badelj scored the only goal late on, but it should’ve been ruled offside because Nikola Kalinic jumped to let it through.

“It was a good game, there were two excellent teams who played a match worthy of their quality,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“Once we had the match in hand, we should’ve been more determined and finished our chances. Fiorentina played their game, but we lost the ball too cheaply in the second half and were not as consistent and effective as we were in the first half.

“We lost the match, but the professionals of Roma did their job tonight. You can lose in football against a good side like Fiorentina.”

Edin Dzeko had a penalty appeal when he crossed paths with Nenad Tomovic, while there was also Kalinic’s offside position on the goal blocking Wojciech Szczesny’s line of sight.

“It was a penalty because he anticipated the trajectory and was running towards the ball. It was more than contact, it was a right kicking,” continued Spalletti.

“The lads talked about it in the locker room, as they’d all seen it was offside. We all want to do things the right way and be objective. “Szczesny confirmed to us he couldn’t see the ball, so he had to take a step to the side and that meant he could not reach the shot.

“My players told me the referee said it was too far away from the goal and therefore didn’t count, or something like that.

“In any case, we can only deal with what depends on us. It’s a defeat that hurts, because the team did not deserve a defeat. Maybe a draw would’ve been fair, but the incidents go against us beyond the reality of what happened on the pitch.”

As Dzeko missed another sitter this evening, should Roma go back to the False 9 system?

“In my view Edin is doing very well now and is the player we need to be complete. Having a False 9 forces you to always play the same way. Edin is both physical and has good technique, so he completes us.”
