Javier Zanetti has revealed that Marcelo Brozovic disrespected Inter, but the midfielder will be allowed to salvage his Nerazzurri career.

Speculation on Brozovic’s Derby d’Italia no-show on Sunday ranged from a technical decision to misconduct in light of his substitution against Hapoel Be’er Sheva midweek, and Zanetti has now confirmed the latter to be the case.

“He was unhappy with his substitution in the Europa League and wanted to leave the stadium,” the Vice-President told Gr Parlamento on Rai TV.

“It was a gesture that prompted the Croatian exclusion from the Derby d’Italia.

“There are very specific rules in place. First of all, the club must always be respected. Then there’s the respect of one’s teammates.

“If he wants to continue to build what we’re doing with us then he’ll always find open doors with us, but it depends on him.”

One player who is far from Inter’s contempt, however, is Mauro Icardi, whose brace defeated Juventus 2-1.

“His start to the season has been very important,” Zanetti added.

“He is our captain and knows the responsibility that it entails, and he’s proving that he understands what it represents.

“For this, we rejected many offers for him in the summer. He wants to do great things with this group.”
