Sassuolo striker Gregoire Defrel has caught the attention of Liverpool Coach Jurgen Klopp.

The French forward has scored five goals in seven competitive games this season between Serie A and the Europa League.

He also provided three assists for teammates.

According to The Sun newspaper, Defrel’s exploits impressed Klopp enough to prompt a possible transfer swoop in January.

He believes the 25-year-old is the right profile to act as an understudy to Daniel Sturridge at Anfield.

Defrel is French, but spent his entire career in Italy at Parma, Foggia and Cesena.

He moved to Sassuolo for €7m in August 2015.
