Gianluigi Donnarumma is expected to sign a new Milan contract before his 18th birthday in February.
Due to rules about contract lengths for players who are under the age of 18, the goalkeeper’s current deal expires in June of 2018.
According to Tuttosport, Donnarumma is happy to sign a new deal, and should do so before his birthday at the end of February.
However, his agent is Mino Raiola, so things may not be as straightforward as they appear.
Raiola is famous for his hardball tactics, and his client having less than two years remaining on his deal puts the ball firmly in the agent’s court.
Given that Donnarumma wants to stay, a renewal should still be possible, but Raiola can use the threat of a 2018 exit to secure exactly the deal he wants.
