The agent of Antonio Mirante has confirmed that the Bologna goalkeeper is nearing a return from suspected cardiac arrhythmia.

Mirante was taken ill at the end of last month and so was omitted from the Rossoblu’s 25-man Serie A squad, but this new development comes three weeks after the club announced “optimism” for the 33-year-old’s recovery.

“That he plays the week before or the one after doesn’t matter. It’s not fundamentally important,” Silvano Martina told Corriere dello Sport.

“In this case, on a human level, it’s especially important that he’s put behind what he’s been through.

“Antonio will start working again slowly in a few days, then Donadoni and the doctors will decide on when he’s in a position to play.”
