Beppe Iachini admits his Udinese job is under threat after a 3-0 home defeat to Lazio and angry fan protests.

Supporters in the Curva Nord stormed out before the final whistle – a very unusual move for the Friulani – and those who remained shooed away players who tried to salute them after the game.

“At the start we played well and tried to do the things we had prepared in training, but we conceded on a set play and from then on the match was on the wrong track,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“After the break we immediately conceded a second goal and it was hard to find the right enthusiasm for a comeback.”

Does Iachini feel his job is at risk?

“It is the journey all Coaches go through. We started from scratch this summer with a whole new team and many foreign players who need time to settle into Serie A.

“We’ve been missing some players due to injury and were therefore unable to have a consistent line-up. I have a lot of faith in these lads who work hard during the week and only by continuing that approach can we further improve.

“It’s a pity we’re without those who could’ve helped the younger elements to grow, but I am convinced that with everyone back we can do good things.

“We are still in the phase of getting to know each other. We started pre-season training with three at the back, then changed to 4-2-3-1 and that needs continual work.

“We paid a heavy price in particular for Silvan Widmer’s injury. We must help the young players grow with less pressure.”
