Ciro Immobile admits Italy “cannot be this naïve again” after fighting back to win 3-2 in Macedonia with his late brace.

The Azzurri had been 1-0 up at half-time through Andrea Belotti’s first senior goal, then the hosts netted twice in two minutes on midfield misplaced passes.

Immobile then managed two goals to complete the comeback and win at the 92nd minute.

“In the second half we came out a bit sluggish and once we conceded the equaliser, we couldn’t react. On an international level you can’t get anything wrong, or they will gobble you up,” the Lazio striker told Rai Sport.

“It went well for us this time, but we cannot be this naïve again. It was a good second half against Spain, a good fightback here, but we need that determination always, not just when we go behind.”

Immobile changed the game coming off the bench against Spain and was on target twice in Skopje. Does he feel that he is a starter now for Italy?

“I feel important, not a starter, and that’s what counts, to feel the teammates and Coach have faith in you. We need to work, run towards the tournament in Russia and all be ready to contribute.”
