Roma director Umberto Gandini believes the club can “grow on the international stage and has great ambitions. They are at the vanguard.”

The former Milan chief was brought in last month, while director of sport Walter Sabatini has moved on.

“Roma chose me to step up in quality,” Gandini told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“With me they can grow on the international stage, as I have experience at the level of UEFA and FIFA, without forgetting that soon I will have new responsibilities too.

“If Roma had not arrived, I would’ve gone abroad. The Giallorossi are the only Italian side I was prepared to continue my career with after Milan.

“Roma have great ambitions. Over the last five years they have always been competitive, but above all we’re working for the present and the future. They are at the vanguard.

“For Luciano Spalletti and all of us, the objective is to excel. The new stadium is an extraordinary opportunity that will give Roma recognition and resonance.”
