Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has weighed in on the Mauro Icardi debacle, and had harsh words for the striker.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 73-year-old stated that the club should consider selling the player, and hinted that he had been badly advised by agent and wife Wanda Icardi.

This came after a huge rift with the club's Ultras, who raised a banner in protest at his behaviour yesterday.

“I believe that the club should take action immediately and maybe end the relationship with the player after this season," Mazzola said.

“I do not remember how old I was when I wrote my first biography, but I was certainly more than 23.

“It was right to give him the captain's armband because he had to realise how important he was but I fear that his acts have cancelled out this sentiment.

“I do not know his family situation, but I’m sure he is not well advised because otherwise he would have acted differently.

Mazzola also discussed the situation with tuttomercatoweb, adding that he understood why the fans had acted this way.

"I was disappointed in Icardi, as I would never do such a thing. Of course, I was sad to see these things at the stadium.

“I understand the fans but I think there was another way to deal the situation.

"The captaincy? Icardi should be stripped of it, making it available to his teammates."
