Eusebio Di Francesco urged Sassuolo to be “more physical” in the Europa League and admired the comeback at Rapid Vienna.

“We played very well after a very bad start in which we made some bad decisions and passes. The team improved a great deal, pushed Rapid into their own half and even dominated in periods,” he told Sky Sport Italia of a 1-1 draw.

“Even if the equaliser was an own goal, we kept the pressure on Rapid and were constantly seeking a goal.

“I think towards the end we had two or three important chances, but we still need to learn in Europe that the referees don’t whistle certain tackles – quite rightly – and we need to be more physical.

“I really liked the young players today, but also Alessandro Matri did well to hold up the ball and fight hard for the team, creating dangerous opportunities for his teammates.”

In the last five games, Sassuolo have conceded in the opening 10 minutes in four of them.

“I can assure you I am happy with the character and the approach we took. Naturally playing the ball to feet there are going to be risks, but we won’t change our philosophy.

“Sassuolo are young and must learn through mistakes. We don’t have much time to prepare for Bologna. I have already studied a few of their moves, plus they have this kid in attack who is really impressive…”

The Coach was referring to his son, Bologna striker Federico Di Francesco.
