Lazio have confirmed that Stefan de Vrij “suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot”.

It was revealed yesterday that the Dutch defender had picked up an injury in training, but it was initially hoped he had just bruised the metatarsal.

“The medical staff of SS Lazio announces that, following a clash in training, Stefan de Vrij has suffered a fracture of the fifth metatarsal in his right foot,” a statement on the Biancocelesti’s website confirmed.

“He has been subjected to the relevant tests and the necessary orthopaedic treatament. The player will undergo check-ups in the coming week.”

The injury is expected to keep De Vrij out for around two months, with Calciomercato.com reporting that he's targeting a return for the Derby della Capitale with Roma in December.

It was also announced that Sergej Milinkovic-Savic followed a separate training program after a muscular injury, but it’s not serious and he’ll have further tests in the coming hours.

Ricardo Kishna returned to training with the squad.
