Napoli drew just 15,912 supporters to Stadio San Paolo for their 2-0 win over Empoli yesterday.

The Partenopei took all three points thanks to goals from Dries Mertens and Vlad Chiriches, but the stadium was a long way from full.

Gate receipts confirm that San Paolo saw its lowest attendance in recent years, bringing in less than €350,000.

The crowd of just under 16,000 beats the 18,000 who attended Napoli-Palermo two seasons ago.

Crowds are generally lower for midweek rounds, but the 60,000-seater arena being less than a quarter full is being seen as indicative of a wider problem in Serie A.
