Massimo Rastelli has moved to play down expectations for Cagliari’s season, while also confirming Bruno Alves will start against Palermo.

The Sardinians enjoyed an excellent start to life back in Serie A, including a famous win against Inter at San Siro, but have recently lost momentum with two successive defeats.

“Even for high-calibre players it isn’t easy to carry the team during difficult matches,” Rastelli said at the Press conference to preview Monday’s match with the Sicily side.

“I understand those who have desire and want to do more, but often that isn’t possible.”

The Coach then revealed that Euro 2016 winner Alves will line up against the Rosaneri.

“I have made my choices and assessments. In recent days I have experimented in light of Murru’s absence in defence.

“One definite starter will be Bruno Alves.”
