Luciano Spalletti confirms an injury crisis for the Europa League trip to Austria Vienna, but assures Roma “learned a lot” from the 3-3 draw.

It kicks off on Thursday at 17.00 GMT and follows on from a thriller at the Olimpico, when the Giallorossi were 3-1 up only to concede twice in just over two minutes.

“I have an entire list of the injuries,” said the Coach as he sat down for his Press conference today.

“Emerson Palmieri has a left calf strain. Kostas Manolas will return to the ground on Friday and train separately from Monday, but will certainly be back for the game with Atalanta.

“Francesco Totti has a muscular problem that is to be evaluated next week. Alessandro Florenzi, Mario Rui and Thomas Vermaelen continue the rehabilitation process.

“During the Empoli match on Sunday, Federico Fazio suffered a small trauma to the right calf and he is to be evaluated. It could be risky to play him tomorrow and he won’t train today.”

Considering the situation, will Daniele De Rossi step back into the defence or move to three at the back?

“Do you see any other solutions? At the moment this is the situation, I have faith in my players and must keep an eye on those who use that faith well. Clearly Daniele can be part of the defence tomorrow, as this is an important quality in his game that can also be used in future.

“I’ve had many matches with injury problems, but never remembered who wasn’t there, as I focus on those who are available.

“The pressure is on us to win and we will play for the victory. I will keep the forward choices to myself until tomorrow night, so at least there’s some element of surprise…

“I can say Kevin Strootman will start in midfield, as he is one of those players who individually has the quality to fight back when things don’t go well and his presence is important.

“We learned a lot from the last game, from the mistakes we made and to ensure we won’t do it again. I see a Roma side that has grown a great deal recently and feel a different atmosphere too, as the players do not accept failing to win after a performance like that at Empoli.

“It almost becomes an obsession, trying to find out why they didn’t win. That is a sign of growth.”
