Much has been made of the ‘casting’ process that Inter have adopted in naming Frank de Boer’s successor, with Stefano Pioli set to be confirmed imminently, but Moratti feels how Suning got to the former Lazio boss is not important.

“Casting of Coaches? Perhaps I saw them on my own, but they have a different way of working and it’s not a case of whether they’re right or wrong,” the ex-President told Gazzetta dello Sport.

“They were transparent in the process and the choice they’ve made is a wise one.

“It’s always difficult to choose a Coach if the team are in crisis: there’s little time to do it and sometimes you can make mistakes. I wasn’t consulted [in the process].

“Suning not close? We’ve always asked these people to be as close to the club as possible, but after all, they live far away. They’re trying to [get closer] and so did Thohir.

“Do we need a strong man at the club? The most important thing is that the Chinese owners make themselves heard in accordance with their responsibilities.”
