Leonardo Pavoletti is top of the Napoli wish-list and there are conflicting reports on whether Genoa will accept an €18m bid.

The Partenopei have essentially given up on turning Manolo Gabbiadini into a centre-forward who can replace injured Arkadiusz Milik.

Genoa striker Pavoletti is the top candidate to arrive in the January transfer window, although Simone Zaza’s unsettled status at West Ham United provides another intriguing option.

Genoa striker Pavoletti is the top candidate to arrive in the January transfer window, although Simone Zaza’s unsettled status at West Ham United provides another intriguing option.

There are mixed reports today, as La Gazzetta dello Sport suggest Genoa and Pavoletti have rejected a mid-season move to the Stadio San Paolo.

On the other hand, Tuttosport claim Genoa President Enrico Preziosi is prepared to sell for €18m.

The main issue seems to be Pavoletti himself, who is not convinced a January transfer is the best thing for his career, especially after recovering from an injury.

Napoli hope to convince him by offering to double his current Grifone wages.

Pavoletti turns 28 later this month and has only just started to catch fire after numerous loan spells around Serie B and Lega Pro.

The Sassuolo youth product moved to Genoa in January 2015 and the club bought him outright that summer for €3m.

He has four goals in nine competitive games this season, while last term he bagged 14 Serie A goals in 25 appearances.
