“Every player aspires to this moment and I was dreaming of it, so naturally I am very happy,” the 24-year-old told Rai Sport.

“Liechtenstein were a rugged side and it was important we get the game on the right track as early as possible.

“I must keep my feet on the ground and always give 110 per cent, because there are so many talented players here and I know I have to give extra to earn my place.

“When I step on to the pitch I try to give my best and maybe even score a goal. I ran very hard, even if there weren’t enough crosses from me and I didn’t put my teammates in the right conditions to score.”
