Giampiero Ventura is looking forward to Italy’s friendly against Germany tonight and a “perhaps unimaginable future.”

The Azzurri host Die Mannschaft at 19.45 GMT, follow the build-up and action on the LIVEBLOG.

“We are eager to test ourselves up against the world champions and see how we hold up in terms of character, technique and tactics,” the Coach told Rai Sport.

“These are games that help you to grow, regardless of the result.”

While Ventura used a 3-5-2 in the early games, he tested the 4-2-4 system for the 4-0 win over Liechtenstein and this evening goes to 3-4-3.

“The system is made by the players at my disposal, but there is the risk of ruining what good we’ve done over the last few days. I consider this important work for the future.

“I am confident we can qualify for the World Cup and confident for what follows after that too. I found great humility from the old guard in the squad, as everyone is eager to learn, grow and participate.

“When I arrived, the lads told me they are here not because of what they are, but what they want to become.”

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio said last week that failure to qualify for Russia 2018 would be a tragedy.

“I have learned to read the various moments of a situation,” replied Ventura. “If the present is dealt with in the right way, the future can reserve something that nobody could’ve imagined.

“I tell President Tavecchio to keep a recording of that statement and maybe take it back out when that perhaps unimaginable future arrives.”
