Germany defender Shkodran Mustafi concedes Italy “took more control” in the second half of their goalless friendly.

“Italy were very strong at the Euros and always are strong,” he told Rai Sport.

“This was another tough game, as it’s never easy here, but in the first half we did pretty well and got a bit too deep in the second, allowing Italy to take more control.

“Andrea Belotti an excellent striker who knows what to do and what positions to take in order to go for goal.”

The former Sampdoria defender moved on to Valencia and is now in England with Arsenal, so what does he miss about Italy?

“When I left Sampdoria, it really hurt, as I was very happy in Genoa. Italy is Italy – you eat well, there’s the seaside too, there’s everything you could want.

“We have to take it one game at a time, because in the Premier League when you only focus on the important matches, you drop points against smaller sides.”
