Massimo Oddo feels Pescara are severely lacking in confidence after a 3-0 defeat to Juventus. “We’re playing with the handbrake on.”

The Delfini were promoted via the Serie B play-offs with sparkling and attacking football, but have had huge problems finding the net this season.

“Our problem this season is that we can’t convert our chances. Tonight compared to previous matches we didn’t even create that many opportunities,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We were a little more solid in defence, as I changed a few things, and that took away some of our confidence going forward. We held out well for as long as we could, naturally against a side with such quality, and once we ran out of steam they took over.

“When a great team controls the ball, they force you to go deep and force you to run a great deal off the ball, which tires you out. I saw the right attitude for about an hour, but Juve did eventually pin us back.”

Pescara are continually praised for their midfield movement, but struggle in attack and defence.

“It’s true, I’ve been working on the final third issue for two years. Our biggest problem is not when the opposition has the ball, as we remain organised, but the real trouble is when we have the ball.

“Last season we were so determined in winning back possession straight away, but our confidence has been hit and we’ve been playing with the handbrake on.

“Also, as against Empoli, when you concede lots of counter-attacks then that hurts your self-belief even more. We’re working on it and I think this evening there were improvements on that score.

“In the opening game against Napoli, we played the same way we did in Serie B. However, if you don’t win, then confidence drops, the fear sets in and you don’t have that same determination.

“What we need is the victory. Technically we haven’t won yet this season, so that would give us so much self-belief.”

There is one win in the table for Pescara, but it was handed to them by the Disciplinary Commission after Sassuolo fielded an ineligible player.
