The two San Siro clubs go head to head in Sunday’s Derby Della Madonnina, with former Nerazzurri man Sneijder giving an interview to Gazzetta Dello Sport to preview the encounter.

As well as expressing his disappointment at the way he left Inter, the Dutchman revealed he would love to play for their city rivals if ever he returned to Serie A.

“At Inter I gave everything, I put my heart into it, but it didn’t finish well,” Sneijder began. “I felt trampled.

“Playing for Milan was my dream when I was a child. So yes, if I went back to Italy I would want to play for Milan.

“I don’t think I will come back [to Inter]. I left after a dispute, and as I said I would like to play for Milan before finishing my career.

“I am old but I can still play. I watch matches from the Italian League and I understand that it isn’t what it was five years ago.

“There is less quality, but Milan is legendary for me.”

“I would have stayed [at Inter], at a certain point I thought ‘stay here and wait.’

“But then I wanted to play, a player cannot be out for so many months. I would have lost my place in the national team, I would have lost what I love most – being on the pitch.”

It was then suggested to Sneijder that he left San Siro to join Galatasaray for the money, a claim he categorically denies.

“Nonsense, I left because there couldn’t be any other way. That has been said plenty but never mind.

“I know that I gave everything for Inter and I am proud of what I achieved.”
