Vincenzo Montella saw “almost the perfect evening” for Milan and insists they should “sleep soundly” after holding Inter to a 2-2 draw.

Ivan Perisic snatched the equaliser deep into stoppages after Suso bagged a brace, but the point still puts the Rossoneri in joint second place with Roma.

“The President (Silvio Berlusconi) was a little upset at the final result, but he complimented the lads,” Montella told Mediaset Premium.

“The President (Silvio Berlusconi) was a little upset at the final result, but he complimented the lads,” Montella told Mediaset Premium.

“I was sorry for them, but we can go home and sleep soundly with a smile because we put in a great performance and showed great spirit.

Inter scored their goal on a set play at the 95th minute. It was almost the perfect evening. I try to see the glass half full.

“In the second half we started well and were superior, but Inter equalised on two fortuitous chances. Maybe Inter didn’t deserve to lose either, but if Milan had won then nobody could’ve claimed we didn’t deserve it.

“We ask so much from our lads, so a dip in concentration can happen every now and then. Seeing the opposition celebrate a 95th-minute equaliser as if they had won, considering this is a team constructed to win the Scudetto, is something to be proud of.”

Suso told reporters this week that he would walk home from San Siro if he scored a brace in the derby.

“He worked hard today, so we’ll let him ride in the team bus…”
