“I feel guilty about the second half with Hapoel, as it means I did not motivate the squad at half-time,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

They had been 2-0 up at the break in Israel, but threw it away and crashed out of the Europa League in the group phase.

“Now we have got to right back and react, to prove we can improve our position in the Serie A table.

“Fiorentina play good football, have quality and they too lost in the Europa League on Thursday, so we cannot afford to underestimate anyone.

“We must find the right determination in an important match. It is the team that has to inspire the fans by playing with fighting spirit.

“A three-man defence could be an option, I am not ruling anything out in tactical terms. It’s not an issue of tactics, but of concentration, which we are working on.

“I’ll field those who give me the most guarantees right now. The whole team has to be more precise and that’ll make life easier for the defenders.

“I see the players are aware of the situation and obviously they are not satisfied, but want to do everything to improve. Since I arrived here, I’ve seen professionalism and care for the club. We know we are part of a prestigious club and that to play for Inter you need quality, values and character.

“Fitness levels are not an issue, because what matters is the mentality, the attitude, approach and determination to a game. The mind rules the legs and not vice-versa, so together we must improve many situations.”

Sitting eight points off third place, can Inter get back into the push for a Champions League spot?

“There are many teams ahead of us now and we’ve got to take it one game at a time, starting by tomorrow with Fiorentina, a chance we absolutely must take.

“We must not make certain mistakes again. In Israel we took our foot off the gas, assuming the game was won, and you cannot afford that anywhere, let alone in Europe.”

Gabriel Barbosa played only 16 minutes in one substitute appearance since his €29.5m move from Santos.

“Everyone can have a chance when they prove to me their form and attitude every day in training,” noted Pioli.

“Game by game I will choose the right characteristics to give us victory.”
