Milan President Silvio Berlusconi “turned down offers for Gigio Donnarumma, Mattia De Sciglio and Alessio Romagnoli,” but isn’t concerned by takeover delays.

“We received offers for Donnarumma, De Sciglio and Romagnoli, but we said no because we want to build the team around them,” he told Mediaset Premium.

The patron is still in the process of selling the club to Chinese investors, but confirmed yesterday that there could be a delay of six to eight weeks.

“I know what Chinese bureaucracy is like, it takes time to get authorisation. This is why I spoke to the Fininvest directors who, if they had guarantees from the banks that the money exists, could give more time to the Chinese group.

“I met the main figure of this coalition and he gave me the impression of being reliable and also a life-long Milan supporter. He told me who will be with him in the club and from the information we got from the banks they seem to be reliable.”

Berlusconi was expected to remain as Honorary President, but he’s now reticent to accept that role.

“They asked me to stay on as President of Milan. If I were to remain, I would not just be a front man, as I’d want to be an active part of the club with the ability to make decisions.”
