This means that Salah has already been ruled out of Sunday's Rome derby.

Tuttosport have reported that the 24-year-old is likely to be out through injury until he leaves for international duty at the African Cup of Nations, meaning he won't return to domestic action until February.

Coach Luciano Spalletti is likely to deploy Stephan El Shaarawy or Juan Iturbe in Salah's absence on Sunday, but will look to the transfer market in January in order to secure a more long-term solution.
