Eugenio Corini praised an “extraordinary response” from Palermo on his debut, a last-gasp defeat to Fiorentina.

He is the third Coach of the campaign after Roberto De Zerbi was sacked due to Wednesday’s Coppa Italia loss to Spezia.

“These have been four complicated days for the lads, as I arrived on Thursday afternoon, they played 120 minutes in the Coppa Italia and lost on penalties,” Corini told Rai Sport.

“These have been four complicated days for the lads, as I arrived on Thursday afternoon, they played 120 minutes in the Coppa Italia and lost on penalties,” Corini told Rai Sport.

“The team inevitably suffered some psychological blowback after months of defeats, so I tried to let them rest physically and mentally, working instead on tactics and motivation.

“They gave me an extraordinary response and we deserved a point, which for a side fighting against relegation is very important indeed.

“I am happy with the performance, because you must be able to read between the lines of any individual defeat.”

It is nonetheless Palermo’s eighth consecutive Serie A loss, a new club record.
