After the Bosnian responded to criticism over his earlier performances for his new club, the 26-year-old also admitted that he would like to become a leader with the Bianconeri.

“Me as a leader? Yes, I want to take the team by the hand," Pjanic continued in an interview with Tuttosport. "I want to assume this responsibility, this is what I’m here for.

"I'm becoming more integrated, I'm doing my best, but I know what it is to play in a place where you have to take responsibility.

"There are many other very good players, great players in every position who are helping me and are helping the whole team to get better and better.

"Higuain? He only needs himself, he does not need me. He’s a player that can score by himself, without help.

"He does not need an assist-man, is so good that he creates his own goals.

"And we are very happy to play with him. Gonzalo is very calm."
