“My fondest memory of the derby is the year of the second Scudetto, which was also my first ‘home’ derby. We won 3-0 with my brace,” the midfielder told La Stampa newspaper.

There have been some controversial moments in this fixture too, such as Enzo Maresca’s celebration mocking Torino hero Marco Ferrante’s iconic ‘bull horns’ gesture.

“It’s a personal matter, you celebrate the way you feel fit at that moment. It is different to score when it’s very tight and aggressive or if it ends 4-0.

“I don’t know if I’d have ever done what Maresca did, but as a fan I definitely celebrated. It’s understandable the opposition were annoyed,” concedes Marchisio.

“Toro never give in and if you don’t step on to the field with the right mentality and tough skin, you’re going to get hurt. We might be the favourites in this fixture, but the Granata are really tough.

“In the current squad Iago Falque is showing his talent, Adem Ljajic is inventive and Andrea Belotti is a great striker. I also like Daniele Baselli and Marco Benassi.

“Sinisa Mihajlovic has a similar character to Toro and therefore fits in perfectly at the club. Considering his origins and experience, he knows how to bring the right energy and motivation for these challenges.

“I think Belotti and Giorgio Chiellini will be the decisive men on Sunday.”

Marchisio was offered a hypothetical trade: lose both Turin derbies in one season and win the Champions League.

“OK, I’d do that, but it’s the only trade I’d make. I really hope to see out my career at Juventus. I felt such joy signing the last contract, which for me felt like a pact – continue winning and teach to the youngsters what I was taught before them.”
