Aston Villa are reportedly weighing up the idea of sending goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini back to Italy and replacing him with Sunderland’s Vito Mannone.

According to GianlucaDiMarzio.com, “various contacts have already been initiated” between Gollini and Italian clubs over a January return to the peninsula.

Gollini only joined Villa in the summer after their relegation from the Premier League, but the 21-year-old has failed to truly convince between the sticks.

Consequently, the former Verona custodian’s place could be taken by fellow Italian Mannone, who has spent the season playing second fiddle to England youngster Jordan Pickford.

The website adds the situation will become clearer in the next few days as it remains to be seen whether the deals would be permanent or merely loans.
