Serie A Week 16: Did You Know?

M'Baye Niang pays the penalty, Turin Derby taboo continues, Napoli equal their record and Nikola Kalinic ends Franchi drought in Susy Campanale's stats.

Milan have won just one of their last 13 competitive visits to Roma, a 3-2 in October 2011 interrupting six draws and as many losses.

M’Baye Niang has taken seven penalties between Ligue 1 and Serie A, failing to convert four of them, including the last two in a row.

The Rossoneri missed only 10 of their last 65 top flight penalties taken by Ronaldinho (three), Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Alexandre Pato, Mario Balotelli (three) and Niang (two). Milan hadn’t failed more than one penalty in a Serie A season since 2013-14.

Luciano Spalletti enjoyed his 150th competitive victory on the Roma bench, joining 65 draws and 56 defeats. His record against Milan for the Giallorossi is of seven wins, two draws and one loss.

The Rossoneri had lost one of the previous 12 rounds, a 3-0 hammering at Genoa. Vincenzo Montella has beaten Roma only twice as a Coach along with four stalemates and seven defeats.

Roma extended their unbeaten Serie A run on home turf to 20 games, including the last 11 victories on the bounce. Half of all their League goals this season were scored in the final half-hour (18 out of 36).

Milan fielded the youngest starting XI of the Serie A season so far, an average of 23 years and 343 days.

Radja Nainggolan had never previously scored against Milan in 11 Serie A meetings.

Torino have won only one of the last 21 Serie A derbies, a 2-1 result in 2015, along with four stalemates and 16 losses.

Gonzalo Higuain has six goals in his seven top flight meetings with Torino. Pipita has 19 Serie A braces and three hat-tricks under his belt.

Toro lost two consecutive Serie A matches for the first time this season. Juve are still without a stalemate in Serie A since the 0-0 at Bologna in February, followed by 24 wins and four losses.

Napoli equalled their all-time record biggest Serie A away win, having beaten Modena 5-0 in 1929 and Udinese in 2007. It’s the fifth consecutive season in which they’ve managed to score at least four goals in a top flight away fixture.

Dries Mertens got his second Serie A hat-trick, the other being in a 6-0 demolition of Bologna on April 19 2016.

The Partenopei hadn’t celebrated two consecutive Serie A away wins since February.

Marek Hamsik marked his 105th goal in a Napoli jersey and is now only behind Sallustro on 108 and Diego Armando Maradona’s 115. Marekiaro is the only man to have scored at least five goals in each of the last 10 Serie A seasons.

Compared to this time last season, Maurizio Sarri’s men have one less point, but have scored four more goals.

Cagliari lost only two home matches this season between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, winning six and drawing one with Roma, but in both those defeats conceded five goals (3-5 to Fiorentina).

The Sardinians have not beaten Napoli since a 2-0 home win in April 2009, followed by five draws and eight losses.

Nikola Kalinic had scored all six Serie A goals on his travels this season, so these were his first at the Stadio Franchi since April 24 against Juventus.

Sassuolo have beaten Fiorentina only once between Serie A and the 2003-04 Serie C2 tournament, earning three draws and four defeats. However, the Tuscans kept only two clean sheets in seven top flight meetings with the Neroverdi.

For the first time since February 21, the Viola enjoyed two consecutive Serie A victories.

Sassuolo have scored in every away fixture this season between Serie A and the Europa League for 18 goals in 14 games.

Now that Fiorentina and Chievo have found the net in the opening 15 minutes, every Serie A side scored at least one goal during this period.

Inter have won their last four competitive home fixtures. Genoa haven’t beaten Inter at San Siro since a 3-1 result in March 1994, followed by three draws and 11 defeats in all competition. The last seven editions of this fixture provided 19 goals.

Marcelo Brozovic has three goals in his last three Serie A games, as many as in the previous 30 appearances put together. This was his first Serie A brace and Joao Mario provided both assists.

Atalanta saw their run of four consecutive home victories come to an end. For the third time this season, the Orobici lost two games on the trot.

Udinese are unbeaten, home or away in all competition, against Atalanta since a 2-0 in September 2013, emerging with four wins and three stalemates.

Sampdoria had been unbeaten in six competitive games, winning four. The Blucerchiati had also won their last five home fixtures on the bounce between Serie A and the Coppa Italia.

Compared to this stage last season, Lazio have 11 more points and scored 11 more goals. Felipe Anderson has provided seven assists in 15 games this season, already equalling his Serie A personal best.

Marco Parolo is the 14th different Lazio player to find the net this season.

Crotone registered their second Serie A victory after a 2-0 result over Chievo at the Stadio Scida. Raffaele Palladino ended his 12-round goal drought.

Pescara have picked up just one point from the last eight rounds, their 1-1 draw with 10-man Cagliari. The Delfini have failed to convert all three penalties this season.

Bologna have just one win in the last 11 rounds, 3-1 over Palermo, along with five draws and as many losses. Empoli are unbeaten in their last four meetings with the Rossoblu, home and away, winning two.

Empoli ended a run of four consecutive defeats between Serie A and the Coppa Italia. Compared to this stage last season, the Tuscans are 13 points worse off. Andrea Costa marked his 150th Serie A appearance, while it was the 50th for Lukasz Skorupski.

Palermo continue adding to their club record negative run by taking it to eight defeats in a row. The Rosanero picked up just one point from the last 11 rounds, since a 1-0 win away to Atalanta on September 21.

The Sicilians have scored only 11 goals after 16 rounds, their worst Serie A tally since 1972.

Chievo have won two of their last 11 Serie A visits to the Stadio Barbera, 3-1 in May 2011, along with four draws and five losses. The Flying Donkeys are unbeaten this season when taking the lead, emerging with six wins and a draw.

Sergio Pellissier celebrated his 100th Serie A goal, all of them with the Chievo jersey. The first was in Parma 0-1 Chievo on November 3 2002.
