The CEO was speaking to reporters at a Christmas party for the youth sides at San Siro.

“It’s wonderful to see the Milan present here alongside its future,” said Galliani.

“Welcome to the theatre of our dreams. What is happening in our youth academy is extraordinary. We are the only club with seven players in the first team who came up through our youth academy, in other words 25 per cent of the squad.

“The President and I dreamed that 100 per cent of the Milan players would come through the academy. Other than Ignazio Abate, Mattia De Sciglio and Luca Antonelli, we were able to add Davide Calabria and Gigio Donnarumma.

“This year another two arrived, like Manuel Locatelli and Alessandro Plizzari. That’s two additions per year from the academy. The President and I thought it’d only be one per year and that was already considered a big achievement.

“I keep a close eye not only on the results of the youth teams, but also the activities right at the roots. In 2015-16 we sent 39 lads into the various international sides from the Under-15 to Under-21 levels.

“We’re not even at Christmas yet and already 25 players have been called up for international duty. That means something wonderful and important is growing here.”
