“We are doing all we can to make the fans proud,” said the tactician in his Press conference.

“Our expectations are the same as those of the club and director general Pantaleo Corvino. We must be competitive and I want to win as many games as possible. However, I believe that in some games we’ve received less than we deserved, so we could’ve been in a very different position right now.”

What does Sousa think about Fiorentina fans calling for him to be sacked?

“I have already answered this before. I want the fans to be proud of us. I have nothing more to add. I always want to improve and win matches.

“I have to make my choices before the game, whereas criticism is made during or after the match. Against Genoa we made defensive errors, but allowed them very little going forward.

“I think so far our mistakes have been more than anything a coincidence. These things happen. The team is playing well and our players are aggressive.

“We’ve already improved a great deal, as the side never gives up and we all know there’s so much more potential here.”

Sousa confirmed Borja Valero is still nowhere near 100 per cent fit, while Khouma Babacar could feature.

“I am not surprised by Lazio’s success, as they deserve to be in their current position. Last season it didn’t go well for them, but their quality is obvious and it is only natural to see Lazio up there near the top of the table. We’re certainly not lacking motivation.”
