Inter boss Stefano Pioli says Roberto Gagliardini is “ready” for Chievo on Saturday and Gabriel Barbosa should stay put.

Speaking at a Press conference on Friday, Pioli also confirmed he saw Gary Medel as a defender, not a midfielder, and warned his Inter players that Chievo would be looking to bounce back from their heavy defeat to Atalanta last weekend.

“Gagliardini? He’s an important signing, he’ll give us substance and enthusiasm and he’s ready to play,” began the Coach.

“It’s a big signal from the club, plus we’re also becoming a stronger team physically, which is a decisive aspect in modern football.

“He described himself well, underlining that he had a great sense of position.

“He can play in a two or three-man midfield and he knows how to play simple and effective football. He’s good at winning the ball back.

“Medel? I see him more as a defender but fully aware, however, that he can do well in the middle of the pitch.

“He’ll be called up, after that we’ll see if he plays from the start.

“Although we’ve always talked about the 4-2-3-1, there are always three midfielders on the pitch, one of whom is more advanced and doesn’t only stay close to Icardi.

“But we move so much on the pitch because of our players taking part in the attacking phase, which I want so much.

“We’ll be facing a Chievo side that have lost only a few games in a year, and unfortunately one of them just came, against Atalanta.

“It’ll be a difficult game. We’re doing well, but I think this team still have great room for improvement, especially in terms of continuity within games, which we’re still giving wrong readings on.

“We’ll need to pick up lots of points in the second half of the season, although I think this team can win a lot of games.

“I’m happy with attitude of everyone, even Gabigol, who at this point will stay with us. We’ll see if he plays in the cup against Bologna on Tuesday.”
