Gigi Del Neri was left to rue Udinese “poor final ball” in the 1-0 home defeat to Roma. “We were too timorous at the start.”

The Friulani tested Wojciech Szczesny several times after the early Radja Nainggolan volley and missed Edin Dzeko penalty.

“We were too timorous at the start, especially the first 15 minutes, and struggled to cut off their through balls. We changed a few things and from then on created more,” Del Neri told Rai Sport.

“Unfortunately we have not been lucky against the big clubs, as with Juventus and Inter too we played well without finishing our chances.

“There were some promising opportunities today and a poor final ball meant they never became clear-cut chances. We’ve got to improve in that area, as clearly we have a lot of young players and they are learning.

“Udinese have had a good season so far and we mustn’t panic.”
