Marco Giampaolo believes Sampdoria can “surprise” Roma in the Coppa Italia tomorrow evening, but loses some midfield players.

It kicks off on Thursday at 20.00 GMT and is a one-off clash for a place in the Quarter-Finals.

“We will go and fight it out with everything we’ve got,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We are facing a very strong Roma side, but we have to give it our all to reach the next round. Unfortunately we’ve not been able to train properly the last couple of days due to the bad weather, so the lads have to apply what they learned on paper and make it work on the pitch.

“So far there have been no real surprises in the Coppa Italia, but hopefully we can take that role and upset the odds against Roma.

“The format should be adjusted, because the bigger clubs have the advantage of playing at home as well, but that mustn’t be used as an alibi for Sampdoria tomorrow.”

The Blucerchiati make the trip to Rome without Edgar Barreto, Ricky Alvarez, Angelo Palombo, Carlos Carbonero, Jacopo Sala and Emiliano Viviano.

Alvarez is a late absentee due to an inflammation in the right knee, while Palombo sustained a back injury during the Empoli draw.

Sampdoria squad for Roma: Krapikas, Puggioni, Tozzo; Amuzie, Bereszynski, Dodô, Pereira, Pavlovic, Regini, Silvestre, Skriniar; Cigarini, Djuricic, Fernandes, Linetty, Praet, Torreira; Budimir, Muriel, Quagliarella, Schick
