Fiorentina director Giancarlo Antognini believes recent criticism of Coach Paulo Sousa is 'exaggerated.'

The Viola were thumped 4-0 by Roma on Tuesday evening in what was a dismal team performance, meaning they remain eighth in the Serie A table.

However, defeat at Stadio Olimpico came after the Florence club having taken 10 points from their previous four matches, including a win over rivals Juventus.

"It was a bad night because if you look at the previous four games we have taken 10 points," Antognini told Radio Bruno.

"It was a good moment. It is a shame the reaction was not there that there should have been.

"Let's look at the positives. We had a good 25 minutes, then after the goal we had a black-out.

"The criticism against the Coach seems exaggerated to me because over a year and a half, he has done well."

The official then called for Fiorentina fans to be patient and support their team for the remainder of the season.

"The fans need to be calmer because if there is fear around, the players play less well. We are still competing on two fronts."
