Atalanta fought back from a goal down to see off Siena and celebrate their 105th anniversary.
This relegation tussle saw both sides dealing with numerous injury problems. Atalanta missed Andrea Consigli, Cristian Raimondi, Ferri, Ivan Radovanovic, Davide Biondini, Giampaolo Bellini, Ferreira Pinto and Daniele Capelli. The visitors had Andrea Campagnolo, Alessandro Rosina, Erjon Bogdani and Jorge Martinez sidelined, plus Ze Eduardo and Coach Serse Cosmi suspended. Also banned were Marcelo Larrondo, Roberto Vitiello, Claudio Terzi and Belmonte due to the betting scandal.
The Orobici were coming off three consecutive defeats, but also marked the 105th anniversary of the club’s foundation. Siena had only one Serie A victory here and that was last season, drawing two and losing three.
Massimo Paci had early penalty appeals for a shirt-tug from Guglielmo Stendardo, but Siena lost Rodriguez to a muscular problem in the opening minutes.
German Denis saw his volley deflected wide, but it was Siena who took the surprise lead at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia.
Reginaldo came off the bench and made the difference, as Angelo rolled across for him to blast under the bar from 14 yards after a set piece was not cleared effectively. The Brazilian had only bee on the field for three minutes.
However, it did not last long, as Luca Cigarini curled in a classic free kick to draw Atalanta level straight away. His effort curled over the wall and in at the near post with Gianluca Pegolo rooted to the spot.
Atalanta had protests for a Francesco Bolzoni challenge, but the only result was Carlos Carmona being sent off from the bench for dissent.
The Orobici turned the game around completely with their own supersub, as a corner was cleared to the edge of the box for the fierce Giacomo Bonaventura screamer.
