Serie A Week 13 - 18 Nov 2012 (14.00 UK)
1 - 0
Vergassola 30 (S)
Stadio Artemio Franchi - Montepaschi Arena

Pescara self-destructed in Siena, losing 1-0, seeing a penalty saved and ending the game with nine men.

These teams are probably the favourites for relegation, as Pescara were demolished 6-1 by Juventus last week and Serse Cosmi’s Siena have a six-point handicap due to the betting scandal. Both sides had injuries to contend with, as the home side were without Reginaldo, Ze Eduardo and Massimo Paci, but welcomed back Alessandro Rosina. The Delfini missed top scorer Vladimir Weiss, Christian Terlizzi, Giuseppe Colucci, Luca Savelloni, Manuele Blasi, Gaston Brugman and Alessandro Crescenzi.

Siena went so close after four minutes when Rosina surged forward and exchanged passes with Francesco Bolzoni, but the ex-Zenit midfielder fired wide with only Mattia Perin to beat.

The Tuscans incredibly failed to score on 21 minutes, as a chaotic move saw Bocchetti parry a Simone Vergassola effort, then concluded with Emanuele Calaio hitting the upright of an open goal.

Siena did take the lead eventually, as Francesco Valiani sprung the offside trap and Nielsen hesitated, giving him the space to smack a precise angled drive into the far bottom corner.

Pescara received their first penalty of the season when Matteo Contini was chasing down Ante Vukusic and eventually dragged him back. However, it was clear the Delfini were unaccustomed to taking spot-kicks, as Gianluca Pegolo was at full stretch to palm Vukusic’s penalty off the line.

The move continued with a Siena counter-attack and Calaio fired wide when he only had Perin to beat. Siena Coach Serse Cosmi was so angry at the whole incident that he was sent off for dissent, continuing to kick advertising boards as he left the field.

Straight after the restart Siena wasted another golden opportunity, as Rosina ran on to a Valiani pull-back and was denied by Perin’s outstretched hand, then the follow-up was ballooned off target.

Pegolo did well to palm away a Juan Fernando Quintero free kick, while Calaio fired over from a tight angle on the counter-attack.

Quintero also went close from a corner, curling directly from the flag on to the outside of the upright.

Pescara lost their heads and received two red cards in the final minutes, as Marco Capuano received a second booking and Damiano Zenon wrapped his arms round an opponent’s neck.
