SERIE A MATCH REPORT

Serie A Week 24 - 10 Feb 2013 (11.30 UK)
Parma 0 - 0 Genoa
Stadio Ennio Tardini

Genoa were unlucky to only draw 0-0 away to Parma, as Andrea Bertolacci rattled the woodwork twice.

The Rossoblu aimed to continue their revival under Davide Ballardini, though Bosko Jankovic, Antonio Floro Flores, Cristobal Jorquera and Marco Rossi were unavailable. Parma were without a win in four, including two consecutive defeats, and had to do without Antonio Mirante and banned duo Aleandro Rosi and Marco Marchionni. Genoa had won at the Tardini just once, drawing two and losing the other nine in the top flight.

MacDonald Mariga moved from Inter in January and was given his first Serie A start for 10 months, but within three minutes he had pulled up with a suspected groin strain and attempts to push through proved fruitless.

Nicola Pavarini needed a fine save to deny Andrea Bertolacci’s bullet header at the near post, while Amauri nodded a corner over at the other end and saw his angled drive smothered.

Another Bertolacci looping header was kept out by Pavarini, but Sebastien Frey had to be at full stretch to fingertip a very dangerous Belfodil glancing header off the line. It wasn’t spotted by the officials, so a corner was not given.

Borriello had a great chance in first half stoppages when Bertolacci won back the ball, but the striker smashed his shot on the volley well over from nine yards.

Genoa went even closer within two minutes of the restart, as Bertolacci surged forward from midfield and unleashed a powerful left-foot strike that smacked against the woodwork with Frey beaten. It struck the very top corner where the crossbar and near post meet.

Marco Rigoni scored on his Genoa debut last week and hoped for another goal, thumping a volley wide of the target.

Bertolacci was terribly unlucky, as he hit the frame of the goal for the second time on 57 minutes. His shot from a corner took a deflection off Borriello to strike the base of the upright.

Parma finally threatened when Amauri managed to turn between defenders in the box, stinging Frey’s palms from point-blank range.

Moments later, a free kick was flicked on to find Belfodil at the back post, but he got underneath it and nodded wide from five yards.

Andrea Coda’s effort from distance tested Frey, but it ended goalless.
