Bologna gave Cagliari an unexpected hammering in Sardinia after Nicola Murru’s red card and some goalkeeping errors.
The visitors finally got their first win of the season at the weekend, dragging themselves off the foot of the table. However, they made this trip without Jose Angel Crespo, Marek Cech, Niccolo Cherubin, Henry Gimenez, Dejan Stojanovic and the suspended star Alessandro Diamanti. Cagliari were glad to be back home at the Sant’Elia, but Albin Ekdal and Gabriele Perico were sidelined.
Bologna were without a victory in Sardinia since a 1-0 in December 1998, but lost Cesare Natali to injury almost immediately.
The visitors took a shock lead when Michael Agazzi horribly spilled a Panagiotis Kone snapshot, allowing Gyorgy Garcis to fire the rebound under the bar.
Agazzi did better when being alert to deny Kone a cheeky backheel flick on Cristaldo’s assist.
Bologna had to make their second substitution of the first half, as Andrea Mantovani also went off injured.
Just before the break a corner fell to Ibraimi and he stung Gianluca Curci’s gloves. Things got worse for Cagliari when Nicola Murru received a second yellow card for fouling Diego Perez.
Bologna doubled their lead when Garics went on a rapid counter-attack and allowed Kone to toe-poke in the finish.
Cagliari went AWOL and Michele Pazienza turned in a free header from a set play, as Mauricio Pinilla was keeping three players onside.
