Bologna missed a host of chances as they drew 0-0 with Chievo at Renato Dell’Ara on Monday night.
Stefano Pioli welcomed back Alessandro Diamanti to the starting XI as the Rossoblu looked to claim their third win in a row. The away side meanwhile, were hoping to end a period of six straight losses.
But that bad run looked likely to continue as the hosts got off to a blistering start with Gennaro Sardo striking from range inside the first three minutes – his shot though, missed the target.
Giuseppe Sannino’s men slowly got themselves into the game however, and were a threat down the left-hand side with Marcelo Estigarribia causing some trouble with particularly wicked crosses.
Diamanti though was proving to be the difference in attack, and it was his cross that found the head of Jonathan Cristaldo, whose header almost opened the scoring.
There was no way through for the home team as they went into the break level with their relegation-threatened opponents.
After the interval, Bologna kept on peppering Christian Puggioni’s goal with efforts. First Panagiotis Kone had a go from 30 yards, but missed the target, and then the Greece international struck from closer in, but once again failed to make the goalkeeper work.
The Veltri were really turning the screw now, but were paying for their profligacy. Cristaldo’s effort was saved by the keeper, whilst Frederik Sorensen’s header missed the target on the hour mark.
Neither team were excelling with their attacking potency, and the nearest the Verona outfit got was when Boadu Acosty forced Gianluca Curci into an easy save late on.
