Alessandro Diamanti’s last-gasp penalty earned Bologna a point, as Sampdoria rued wasted opportunities.
The Blucerchiati had the chance to get further away from the drop zone and ruin Davide Ballardini’s Bologna revival. The new Coach was unbeaten since replacing Stefano Pioli thanks to draws against Lazio and Napoli, but Panagiotis Kone sat out a ban. Samp had Vasco Regini suspended.
Alessandro Diamanti was on the verge of joining Marcello Lippi’s Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande this week, but Bologna put a stop to negotiations.
Nenad Krsticic was at full stretch, but unable to get on the end of Pedro Obiang’s cross by a matter of inches. At the other end Bologna had a similar chance, as Diamanti threaded through for Gyorgy Garics and Rolando Bianchi just failed to tap in the cross.
Eder had penalty appeals after the restart when sandwiched between Antonsson and Cesare Natali. Soriano dribbled through defenders in the box only to have his shot parried from point-blank range by Gianluca Curci.
Manolo Gabbiadini broke the deadlock to put Sampdoria in front, but did not celebrate against his former teammates. Eder got to the by-line and pulled back for Gabbiadini’s low drive with the inside of the boot from 12 yards.
Eder’s daisy-cutter shaved a coat of paint off the base of the far post, but Samp were made to pay for wasting those chances.
Lazaros Christodoulopoulos was tripped by Costa as he burst into the box and Diamanti converted the resulting penalty.
