Raffaele Palladino wiped out Niccolò Cherubin’s goal, as the Emilia-Romagna Derby ended 1-1 between Bologna and Parma.
There was a lot riding on this local derby, as the Rossoblu were two points clear of the relegation zone, while the Ducali were in joint fifth place and seeking a Europa League spot. Rene Krhin, Jose Crespo and Francesco Della Rocca missed out for the hosts. Antonio Cassano, Nicola Pozzi and Jherson Vergara didn’t make the trip, but Amauri and Alessandro Lucarelli returned from suspension with Walter Gargano back from injury.
Cesare Natali’s early header from a free kick was wide, while Afriyie Acquah’s long-range screamer whistled off target.
Ezequiel Schelotto sprung the offside trap from Gargano’s ball over the top, but his first touch let him down and Niccolò Cherubin rushed back in time to dispossess him. Lucarelli stood his ground to charge down a Lazaros Christodoulopoulos snapshot.
Raffaele Palladino thought he had scored on 25 minutes when Mattia Cassani whipped in a cross for his volley from six yards, but the linesman raised his flag for an extremely tight offside position.
Natali got a crucial block on Acquah’s shot after a well-worked Parma move. Gianluca Curci was caught out by a corner, but the header was eventually over the bar from Gabriel Paletta.
Parma were dominating towards half-time and Cristian Molinaro scuffed his strike wide. Jonathan Cristaldo finally threatened with a solo run, but didn’t hit the finish cleanly after going past Lucarelli.
Bologna should’ve scored on 43 minutes, as Archimede Morleo burst down the left and pulled back for Panagiotis Kone, who ballooned over the bar from 10 yards.
It was the hosts who broke the deadlock from a Christodoulopoulos set play, as Cherubin gathered with his back to goal on the penalty spot, spun round and curled into the near top corner. He celebrated by holding up the jersey of injured teammate Francesco Della Rocca.
After the restart Bologna threatened a second, but Morleo got in front of Schelotto for a header straight at a grateful Antonio Mirante.
Lucarelli got his head to a Gargano set play, but couldn’t keep it on target. Instead, Bologna came incredibly close to doubling their lead, as a well-worked move sliced the Parma defence to ribbons and Cristaldo thought he’d scored from six yards, but Lucarelli got back for a decisive goalline clearance.
Curci smothered a Biabiany glancing header and Parma eventually got their equaliser 11 minutes from time.
Biabiany crossed from the right for Palladino’s volley at the back post, bounced into the ground and across Curci.
Kone blasted a free kick into the wall from a promising position and Amauri fired over the bar, but Robert Acquafresca went even closer when he stung the gloves of Mirante at full stretch at the near post.
